Gluckel

Glückel of Hameln (c. 1646–1724) was a German Jewish businesswoman and diarist who wrote the first known pre-modern Yiddish memoirs by a woman. Born in Hamburg to a wealthy Ashkenazi family, she managed her family's business affairs after her first husband's death and later authored her memoirs as an ethical will for her children. Her work provides an intimate account of 17th-century Jewish communal life, commerce, and family dynamics in Europe.
