Giorgos Despinis

Giorgos I. Despinis (1936–2014) was a distinguished Greek archaeologist and professor emeritus of classical archaeology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, renowned for his expertise in ancient Greek sculpture. Born on the marble-rich island of Tenos, he studied at the University of Athens, earning his diploma in 1958, and made significant discoveries including fragments of Parthenon sculptures and the Despinis Head attributed to Praxiteles.[1][2][7][8]
