Gilbert Blane
Sir Gilbert Blane (1749–1834) was a Scottish physician renowned for his reforms in naval medicine, particularly promoting lemon juice to prevent scurvy among sailors. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, earned his M.D. from Glasgow in 1778, served as physician to Admiral Rodney's fleet, and later became physician to St. Thomas’ Hospital and to British royalty. Blane authored key works including *Observations on the Diseases of Seamen* (1785) and received a baronetcy in 1812.
