Gerald 1904-1988 Abraham
Gerald Ernest Heal Abraham (1904-1988) was a prominent English musicologist, particularly renowned for his expertise on Russian music, and served as the first Professor of Music at the University of Liverpool from 1947 to 1962, Assistant Controller of Music at the BBC, and President of the Royal Musical Association from 1969 to 1974.[1][2][3] He edited the *New Oxford History of Music* and authored key works such as *A Hundred Years of Music*, *Slavonic and Romantic Music*, and *The Concise Oxford History of Music*, while also contributing to the *New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians*.[1][3] Abraham was awarded honorary doctorates from universities including Durham, Liverpool, and California, and was appointed CBE in 1974.[1][2][3]
