Georges Ifrah

Georges Ifrah (1947–2019) was a French mathematics teacher, author, and self-taught historian of mathematics, best known for his work on the history of numerals and counting systems. He wrote influential reference works such as "The Universal History of Numbers" and became recognized for his broad studies of number symbolism, digits, and calculation.[1][2][3][4]
