George W. Featherstonhaugh

George William Featherstonhaugh (1780–1866) was a British-American geologist, geographer, explorer, and early railroad promoter. He served as the first geologist to the U.S. government and conducted surveys in the Louisiana Purchase region, later writing accounts of his travels and work.[1][2][3]
