George Selden
George Selden Thompson (1929–1989) was an American children's author best known for his 1961 novel The Cricket in Times Square, a Newbery Honor book featuring Chester Cricket, Tucker Mouse, and Harry Cat in urban New York settings.[1][3] Born in Hartford, Connecticut, he graduated from Yale University, studied in Italy on a Fulbright scholarship, and wrote over fifteen books satirizing human behavior through talking animals.[1][3][4] He also published under the pseudonym Terry Andrews and received awards like the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award and Christopher Book Award.[1][4]
