George Rawlinson

George Rawlinson (1812–1902) was a British scholar, historian, and Christian theologian known for his authoritative histories of the ancient world, particularly The Five Great Monarchies of the Ancient Eastern World. He served as the Camden Professor of Ancient History at Oxford from 1861 to 1889 and was a canon of Canterbury from 1872. Rawlinson also produced a major commented translation of Herodotus and edited works by his brother, Sir Henry C. Rawlinson.
