George N. Agrios

Dr. George N. Agrios was a renowned plant pathologist born in Galarinos, Halkidiki, Greece, who earned his Ph.D. from Iowa State University in 1960 and held faculty positions at the University of Massachusetts and the University of Florida, where he served as the first director of the IFAS Plant Medicine Program.[1][2][3] He authored the influential textbook 'Plant Pathology,' first published in 1969 and reaching its fifth edition in 2005, which became the most widely used text in the field globally, and was elected a Fellow of the American Phytopathological Society in 1983, later serving as its president.[2][4] Agrios passed away on March 8, 2010, in Gainesville, Florida, due to complications of Parkinson's Disease.[3]
