George Grote
George Grote (1794–1871) was an English political radical, banker, and classical historian best known for his 12-volume History of Greece (1846–1856), which covered Greek history from its earliest periods to the death of Alexander the Great. He worked in his family's bank until 1843, served as a Member of Parliament for the City of London from 1832 to 1841, and played a key role in founding University College London to provide non-sectarian higher education.[1][3]
