George Gordon Meade

George Gordon Meade was an American military officer in the United States Army, best known for commanding the Army of the Potomac and defeating Robert E. Lee at Gettysburg during the Civil War. Born in Cádiz, Spain, to American parents, he graduated from West Point in 1835 and later served in the Mexican War and in the Union Army before dying in Philadelphia in 1872.[1][2][3]
