George Ella Lyon
George Ella Lyon is an acclaimed American author from Kentucky known for her diverse work in picture books, poetry, juvenile novels, and essays, with many of her titles drawing on Appalachian family stories and regional culture. Born in 1949 in Harlan, Kentucky, she served as the Kentucky Poet Laureate from 2015 to 2016 and has published over forty books that have received numerous awards, including the Schneider Family Book Award. Lyon holds a PhD in English from Indiana University and continues to write and teach from Lexington, Kentucky.
