George Eliot
George Eliot, born Mary Ann Evans, was an English Victorian novelist, poet, journalist, and translator renowned for her psychological depth in character portrayal and depictions of rural English life. She adopted a male pen name to publish her works, starting with the successful novel Adam Bede in 1859, followed by masterpieces like The Mill on the Floss, Silas Marner, Middlemarch, and Daniel Deronda. After living with George Henry Lewes, she married John Walter Cross shortly before her death in 1880.
