George E. Stuart
George Edwin Stuart III (1935–2014) was an American archaeologist, cartographer, and scholar renowned for his contributions to Mesoamerican and Maya archaeology. He served as a long-time staff archaeologist and chair of the National Geographic Society's Committee for Research and Exploration, co-directing the Coba Archaeological Mapping Project and authoring influential books like *The Mysterious Maya* (1977) and *Lost Kingdoms of the Maya* (1993). His work significantly advanced the study of Maya hieroglyphs and shaped public understanding of New World archaeology.[1][2]
