Gene Luen Yang

Gene Luen Yang is an American cartoonist, author, and former teacher born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, son of immigrants from Taiwan and Hong Kong. He began drawing comics in fifth grade, self-published his first comic in 1996 after receiving a Xeric Grant, and gained prominence with his 2006 graphic novel American Born Chinese, the first to win the Printz Award and be nominated for a National Book Award. Yang taught computer science for 17 years, served as National Ambassador for Young People's Literature in 2016-2017, received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2016, and continues to create acclaimed works like Boxers & Saints and Secret Coders.[1][2][3][5]
