Gene D. Phillips

Gene D. Phillips, S.J. (1935-2016) was an American author, educator, Catholic priest, and Jesuit who specialized in film history and biography. He earned degrees from Loyola University Chicago and a PhD in English literature from Fordham University, teaching English and film at Loyola from 1970 to 2010. Phillips authored over 20 books on filmmakers and cinema, including biographies of directors like Fred Zinnemann and George Cukor, and served on editorial boards and film festival juries.
