Fumiko Kawai

Kaneko Fumiko (1902–1926) was a Japanese anarchist and author who wrote 'The Prison Memoirs of a Japanese Woman' while incarcerated for plotting to assassinate the Japanese emperor. Born into a life of hardship and sent to Korea as a child, she became a strong, independent woman who joined left-wing groups in Tokyo and formed a nihilist organization with Pak Yeol. She was arrested during anti-leftist hysteria following the Great Tokyo Earthquake and defiantly hanged herself in prison on July 23, 1926.
