Frederick Thurston

Frederick John Thurston (1901-1953) was a prominent English clarinettist and pedagogue, born in Lichfield, who won an open scholarship to the Royal College of Music at age nineteen and became principal clarinetist of the BBC Wireless Orchestra in 1929. He performed with major orchestras, inspired numerous composers to write 22 solo and chamber works for him, and taught at the Royal College of Music from 1930 until his death in London.[2][3][10]
