Frederick Brooks Jr.

Frederick Phillips Brooks Jr. was an American computer architect, software engineer, and computer scientist best known for managing the development of IBM's System/360 mainframe computers and OS/360, chronicling his experiences in the seminal book The Mythical Man-Month. He earned degrees from Duke University and Harvard, worked at IBM on projects like the Stretch supercomputer, and later founded the University of North Carolina's computer science department in 1964, where he chaired it for 20 years and researched 3D graphics and virtual reality.
