Frederick B. Cohen

Frederick B. Cohen is an American computer scientist best known as the inventor of the computer virus concept and pioneer of virus defense techniques, having created one of the first viruses in 1983 as a student at the University of Southern California.[1][2][3] He demonstrated in 1987 that no algorithm can perfectly detect all possible viruses and developed numerous information protection methods, including integrity mechanisms, secure network protocols, and defensive information warfare techniques used in over three quarters of the world's computers.[1][2] Cohen has authored over 120 publications, taught information protection courses to over 10,000 students worldwide, and received the 1989 international Information Technology Award for integrity protection.[2]
