Fred Emil Katz

Fred Emil Katz was a sociologist and author specializing in the Holocaust and the psychology of evil, best known for his book 'Ordinary People and Extraordinary Evil' (1993), the first volume of a trilogy examining how ordinary individuals commit horrific acts under bureaucratic or cultural pressures. He earned a degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Guilford College in 1952 and a PhD in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, later teaching at the University of Missouri, SUNY Buffalo, and Tel Aviv University.
