Franz Bopp

Franz Bopp was a German linguist and philologist, widely regarded as a founder of comparative Indo-European linguistics. His groundbreaking work, 'On the Conjugation System of Sanskrit in Comparison with That of Greek, Latin, Persian, and Germanic Languages' (1816), established systematic correspondences among these languages. He spent most of his career as a professor at the University of Berlin, where he wrote his monumental 'Comparative Grammar' (1833–1852).
