Frans Van Eemeren

Frans Hendrik van Eemeren is a Dutch scholar and Professor Emeritus of Speech Communication, Argumentation Theory, and Rhetoric at the University of Amsterdam. He is best known as the co-founder of pragma-dialectics, an argumentation theory developed with Rob Grootendorst in the early 1980s based on Karl Popper's critical rationalism[1][3]. He has published numerous books and papers, including Strategic Maneuvering in Argumentative Discourse, and received an honorary doctorate from the Universitá della Svizzera Italiana in 2010[1][3].
