Franklin Pierce

Franklin Pierce was the 14th President of the United States, serving from 1853 to 1857, and is the only president from New Hampshire. A northern Democrat, he struggled to address the growing sectional tensions over slavery, ultimately encouraging the passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which set the nation on the path to civil war. He died in 1869 at the age of 64.
