Frank Stockton
Frank Richard Stockton (1834-1902) was an American writer and humorist best known for his innovative fairy tales and the famous short story 'The Lady, or the Tiger?' (1884). Born in Philadelphia to a Methodist minister who discouraged his literary ambitions, he initially worked as a wood engraver before becoming a prolific author of humorous fiction, fantasy, and children's stories. He served as assistant editor of prestigious publications including St. Nicholas Magazine and contributed significantly to 19th-century children's literature.
