Francis Perea

Francisco Perea was a prominent New Mexican politician, military leader, and businessman born on January 9, 1830, in Los Padillas, New Mexico (then part of Mexico). During the Civil War, he served as a lieutenant colonel in the Union Army, defending New Mexico Territory against Confederate forces and participating in the Battle of Glorieta Pass, before serving as a Republican delegate to the U.S. House from 1863 to 1865. After the war, he continued in territorial politics, operated a hotel in Jemez Springs, and worked as postmaster until his later years in Albuquerque.
