Francis Henry King

Francis Henry King (1923–2011) was a British novelist, short-story writer, poet, and critic, born in Switzerland and raised partly in India. Educated at Shrewsbury School and Balliol College, Oxford, he worked for the British Council in Europe and Japan before resigning in 1966 to write full-time, also serving as a prominent book and theatre reviewer for the Sunday Telegraph. His notable works include To the Dark Tower (1946), The Dividing Stream (1951, Somerset Maugham Award winner), and Act of Darkness (1983), often drawing on his international experiences.
