Francis Aidan Gasquet
Francis Aidan Gasquet (born Francis Neil Gasquet) was an English Benedictine monk, historian, and cardinal who challenged anti-Catholic narratives in English history and documented the Black Death's impact in England. Educated at Downside School, he entered the Benedictine monastery there, served as prior, and later became prefect of the Vatican archives in 1917 after being created a cardinal in 1914. His notable works include 'Henry VIII and the English Monasteries' (1888–89), 'A History of the Church in England' (1897), and 'Parish Life in Medieval England' (1909).[1][2]
