Francine Shapiro
Francine Shapiro (1948–2019) was an American psychologist and educator best known for developing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, a psychotherapy method for treating trauma discovered during a walk in the 1980s.[1][2] She founded the EMDR Institute and the EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Programs, authored key texts on EMDR, and served as a senior research fellow at the Mental Research Institute.[5][4] Her work has been endorsed by organizations like the American Psychiatric Association and WHO for trauma treatment.[2][5]
