Frances M. Wood

Frances Wood is an English sinologist, librarian, and historian born in 1948, renowned for her writings on Chinese history, including books on Marco Polo, Chinese treaty ports, and the First Emperor. She studied Chinese at Cambridge University (1967-71), spent time at the Languages Institute and Peking University (1975-76), and earned a PhD in Chinese domestic architecture from SOAS in 1984. Wood worked extensively with Chinese manuscripts at the British Library, including cataloging Dunhuang fragments and restoring the Diamond Sutra, and has authored over 20 books on Chinese culture.[1][4][6][7]
