Foreign Service Institute

The Foreign Service Institute (FSI) is the United States federal government's primary training institution for members of the Foreign Service, preparing diplomats and professionals to advance U.S. foreign policy objectives. Established on March 13, 1947, by Secretary of State George C. Marshall under the Foreign Service Act of 1946, it offers over 800 courses, including up to 70 foreign languages, to more than 225,000 enrollees annually from the State Department and other agencies. FSI is based at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington, Virginia.
