Firdausi
Ferdowsi, also known as Firdausi or Firdawsi, was a renowned Persian poet born around 935-940 near Tus in northeastern Iran, from a family of wealthy landowners.[1][2][3] He is celebrated for authoring the Shahnameh, the national epic of Iran comprising nearly 60,000 verses, which chronicles the mythical and historical kings and heroes of Persia from creation to the Islamic conquest, a work he composed over about 30-35 years starting around 975-991.[1][2][3] Despite seeking patronage from Sultan Mahmud of Ghazna, Ferdowsi faced financial hardships and completed the epic by around 1010, profoundly influencing Persian literature and national identity.[1][2]
