Fielding Dawson

Fielding Dawson (1930–2002) was an American novelist, short-story writer, painter, and educator, born in New York City and associated with Black Mountain College from 1949 to 1953.[1][2][6] He produced over twenty books, including novels like *Open Road* (1970) and *The Mandalay Dream* (1971), numerous short story collections published mainly by Black Sparrow Press, and memoirs such as *An Emotional Memoir of Franz Kline*, often featuring experimental, stream-of-consciousness styles influenced by his personal life and dreams.[1][4][6][8] Dawson taught writing in prisons and contributed to the American PEN Prison Writing Committee, dying in Manhattan in 2002.[2][6]
