Fern Michaels
Mary Ruth Kuczkir (née Koval), known by the pen name Fern Michaels, was an American author who wrote over 200 romance and thriller novels, including the Sisterhood series, Texas quartet, and Captive series, selling an estimated 150 million copies with more than 150 New York Times and USA Today bestsellers.[1][2][4] She initially co-authored under the pseudonym with Roberta Anderson before becoming the sole author in 1989, and established the Fern Michaels Foundation to provide scholarships and support for students and single mothers.[1][5] Michaels was a passionate animal lover living in South Carolina, surrounded by family and pets, until her death at age 92.[1][4]
