Eve Merriam

Eve Merriam (born Eva Moskovitz) was an American poet, playwright, and writer renowned for her children's literature, feminist works, and poetry addressing social issues like racism and sexism. Born in Philadelphia to Russian Jewish immigrants, she graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1937 and studied at Columbia University before gaining acclaim with her 1946 Yale Younger Poets Award-winning collection Family Circle. She authored numerous books, plays such as The Club, and adaptations like Inner City Mother Goose, and died in Manhattan from liver cancer at age 75.
