Esther Averill (Author, Illustrator)
Esther Averill (1902-1992) was an American writer and illustrator best known for her Cat Club picture books featuring Jenny Linsky, a black cat with a red scarf, inspired by cats she owned.[1][3] After graduating from Vassar College in 1923, she moved to Paris, founded the Domino Press in 1931 specializing in children's books, and later returned to the U.S. to work at the New York Public Library while creating her popular series from 1944 to 1972.[1][4]
