Ernesto Cardenal
Ernesto Cardenal (1925–2020) was a Nicaraguan Catholic priest, revolutionary poet, and politician known for his liberation theology and founding of the primitivist art community on the Solentiname Islands.[1][2] He participated in the Sandinista revolution, served as Nicaragua's Minister of Culture from 1979 to 1988, and faced suspension from ministry by the Vatican for his political involvement.[2][3] Later, he became critical of the Sandinista government under Daniel Ortega.[2]
