Eric Hill was a British author and illustrator best known for creating the beloved children's character Spot in the lift-the-flap book 'Where's Spot?' published in 1980, inspired by his son Christopher's fascination with flaps. Born in Holloway, London, he began his career as a graphic designer and cartoonist, working in advertising before becoming a full-time children's book creator whose Spot series sold over 60 million copies worldwide in more than 60 languages. Hill passed away in 2014 at age 86 after a short illness.
