Erhard Steiniger

Erhard Steiniger was a German-Sudeten memoirist who served as a radio operator in the Wehrmacht during World War II, fighting on the Eastern Front in Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, and Russia. Born into the German-speaking minority in Sudetenland, Czechoslovakia, he was drafted in 1940, captured by the Soviets at the end of the war, and released in 1949 after years of captivity in Siberia. His account, titled 'Radio Operator on the Eastern Front,' details his wartime experiences and postwar suffering as a broken man returning to Germany.
