Emily K. Abel

Emily K. Abel is a public health and medical historian, author, and professor emerita at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, where she previously taught Health Services and Women’s Studies[1]. She earned her B.A. from Swarthmore College, an M.A. in history from Columbia University, a Ph.D. in history from the University of London, and an M.P.H. from UCLA[1]. Her notable works include Hearts of Wisdom: American Women Caring for Kin, 1850–1940 and Tuberculosis and the Politics of Exclusion, which won the 2008 Viseltear Award for outstanding book in the history of public health[1][2].
