Elizabeth Yates

Elizabeth Yates McGreal (1905–2001) was an American author best known for her children's literature, particularly the biographical novel Amos Fortune, Free Man, which won the 1951 Newbery Medal. Born in Buffalo, New York, she moved to New York City to pursue writing, worked various jobs, married William McGreal, lived abroad, and settled in New Hampshire after 1939, producing over 40 books. She also wrote autobiographies and conducted writing workshops.[1][2][4]
