Elizabeth Janet Gray
Elizabeth Janet Gray Vining (1902–1999) was an American author and librarian best known for her children's books, including the Newbery Medal-winning *Adam of the Road* (1943). Born in Philadelphia, she began publishing at age 17, graduated from Bryn Mawr College and Drexel University, and later tutored Crown Prince Akihito of Japan from 1946 to 1950, chronicling her experiences in *Windows for the Crown Prince* (1952).[1][2][3]
