Elizabeth A. Bernays

Elizabeth A. Bernays was an Australian-born entomologist and Regents Professor Emerita at the University of Arizona, renowned for her research on the evolution of plant-feeding insects and their physiology and behavior. She had a distinguished career spanning positions as a British government scientist, professor at UC Berkeley, and head of the Department of Entomology at the University of Arizona, publishing over 200 scientific papers alongside essays, poems, and children's books. After retiring, she pursued writing and natural history studies, winning a 2020 New Mexico-Arizona Book Award for her memoir.
