Eliza Leslie

Eliza Leslie (1787–1858) was a prominent American author best known for her popular cookbooks and household management guides that focused on middle-class domestic life. She also wrote etiquette books, novels, short stories, and articles for magazines, often publishing under the moniker 'Miss Leslie'. Her most famous work, 'Directions for Cookery, in its Various Branches' (1837), sold over 150,000 copies and remained in print for decades.
