Elias Ashmole
Elias Ashmole was a seventeenth-century English antiquary, politician, and alchemist who founded the Ashmolean Museum at the University of Oxford. He was also an active collector and writer on alchemy, history, and heraldry. His collections formed the basis of the first public museum in Britain.
