Edward Layer
Edward Lear (1812–1888) was an English artist, illustrator, musician, author and poet known mostly for his literary nonsense in poetry and prose, particularly limericks and nonsense verse. He popularized the limerick form through works like 'The Book of Nonsense' (1846) and 'Nonsense Songs, Stories, Botany and Alphabets' (1871), which included the famous poem 'The Owl and the Pussy-Cat'. His nonsense poems portrayed fantastical creatures and worlds while often suggesting underlying melancholy.
