Edward George Earle Lytton Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Baron Lytton (1803–1873) was an English novelist, poet, playwright, and politician who wrote prolifically across genres including historical fiction, mystery, romance, occult, and science fiction. His notable works include 'Pelham' (1828) and 'The Last Days of Pompeii' (1834), and he served as a Whig MP (1831–1841), Conservative MP (1852–1866), and Secretary of State for the Colonies (1858–1859).[1][2][3]
