Edward Augustus Freeman

Edward Augustus Freeman (1823–1892) was an influential English historian, architectural artist, and Liberal politician, best known for his multi-volume magnum opus, The History of the Norman Conquest of England (1867–1879).[1][2] He served as Regius Professor of Modern History at Oxford University, where he tutored Arthur Evans and contributed to the development of academic history in Britain through his emphasis on original sources and unity of history.[1][2][3] A prolific writer with 239 works, Freeman was also involved in political activism, including support for Balkan uprisings against the Ottoman Empire.[1]
