Earl of Caithness John Sutherland Sinclair
John Sutherland Sinclair, the 17th Earl of Caithness, was a Scottish nobleman born in 1857 who emigrated to the United States and operated a farm called Berriedale in Lacota, North Dakota, from 1884 to 1905. Educated at the University of Aberdeen, he carried on business in North Dakota for six years after inheriting his title and served as chief of the Sinclairs of Caithness despite owning no land in Scotland. He died on 30 May 1914 in Los Angeles, California.
