Duncan Clinch Heyward
Duncan Clinch Heyward (1864–1943) was an American rice planter and politician who served as the 88th governor of South Carolina from 1903 to 1907, implementing progressive reforms focused on education and rural schools.[1][3] Orphaned young and educated at Washington and Lee University, he became a prominent lowcountry rice grower before entering politics and later authored 'Seed from Madagascar' (1937), a study of South Carolina rice culture.[1][3][5] After his governorship, he managed business ventures and served as federal internal revenue collector for South Carolina.[3][5]
